Starting the building of our new house and being a part of a beautiful family wedding are just two out of the three major things that have been going on since I last wrote a diary entry....
But the major one...
That you've all been asking about....
Is that I decided to focus more on my business and left my full time job as an Associate Audiologist!! It's kind of a big deal, and I can't really believe I did it, but it has definitely been the right move for me.
Some things I noticed while considering focussing more on my creative business:
- I was driving to work thinking about everything that needs done when I get back, rather than what I am going to do when I get there
- Inspiration and ideas would hit me at times I could not do anything about it (I couldn't even write them down!)
- When people asked about what I had been up to, I barely mentioned the 8 hours a day I spent at my main job and told them everything that goes on during the 3 hours each night I could work on building my business..
- My work days were long, while my evenings and weekends would just disappear
- and finally the most frustrating thing of all, I was finding myself turning down brilliant business opportunities because there were not enough hours in the day.
So after taking a few things into consideration, and after discussing it with my nearest and dearest, I handed in my notice and started my new self-employed life.
It has now been 2 months and I haven't looked back once. I am able to focus better on what I am doing and feel more in control as a result. I'm healthier, more relaxed and I'm able to enjoy everything just a little more.
There have definitely been moments where I've felt like shouting: "I DON'T KNOW WHAT IM DOING!!" and other moments where I've had hugely productive and rewarding days and celebrated late at night with a sophisticated glass of wine. I hope neither of these moments go away anytime soon; they are both great reminders that I am doing something exciting here!
My time for the past few months has been spent planning, learning and researching to make sure I'm doing everything to the best of my ability. This has been a positive experience due to the support and encouragement I have received from the people who know me and an overwhelming amount of people who don't. Between the people who visit Shetland, my lovely followers on instagram and facebook, and the community we have in Shetland, I could not be more grateful.
Finally I'd like to thank you all for your patience as I have not written in my diary for quite some time, however I have scheduled monthly entries from now, so make sure you come back next month or sign up to receive entries via email.
This months image is a lovely illustrated quote. You may recognise this as I posted it on my instagram a few months ago.
I keep finding myself looking back at it since I found it a few months ago, I hope it is as helpful for you!
