Craft Fair 2018!

Craft Fair

This was my second Shetland Arts and Crafts Craft Fair and it was another huge success! It was amazing to see so many people in Shetland come together to support the artists and makers, it's always absolutely packed with great ideas and talented people (who make beautiful things!), and I am so proud to be a part of the association and the fair. Shetland News wrote an article about the success of the event, you can read that here.

Launching at my stand was the 3 new cowl colourways, Sapphire, Tina's Cowl and Peat. One great part about the Craft Fair is being able to see peoples reactions in real time, something you just don't get from posting pictures online. Sapphire was certainly the most popular this year, with the Neptune colourway not too far off from being the favourite for a second year running!

Other additions to the stand this year was a smaller sized pinboard, these grabbed the attention of a few people, the knitting kits I have been promoting over the summer, and of course, the jumper rail! I have never been able to have so many jumpers available at one time, so the hard work truly did pay off.

I have to finish off by saying a huge thank you to everyone who helped me prepare, as well as helping over the weekend. Grant, Mam, Dad, Lucia, Kyna, Kristina, Lizzie, Barbara and Netta are due a special mention, it really is a team effort for events like these!

new cowls!

Class taking place on the 1st of December at the Shetland Designer Workshop in Cunningsburgh from 2-5pm

A 3 hour class discussing in detail how the combination of colour and motifs can be used to create the desired effect in your Fair Isle knitting. We will be looking at how to place your colours, why motifs matter, and how we wash and block knitting to create different effects. I will also walk you through how I have created a few of my designs including my thought process and the reason for choosing each colour. This will be a sketchbook style class so we will not be knitting, but planning how we think about Fair Isle for our future projects.

I recommend you bring size 3mm needles or similar in case you do get through the planning stage and want to start knitting
