January 2018 – A Good Start

Hello and a Happy New Year! I hope you're having a healthy and productive start to your year.

I have so much to share with you this month!

Fruity Knitting

First of all, the online podcast "Fruity Knitting" uploaded their Christmas Special which featured myself and Granny Wilma (Shetland Designer) just after my last email. It was great to have Andrew and Andrea in Shetland for Wool Week and along for an interview, cup of tea and bannock while they were here. The interview went extremely well (despite the nerves!) and I couldn't thank them enough for asking us to be included. We talked about knitting in Shetland and what it meant to Granny as a young girl then when she became a business owner, our design processes and what we do as part of our work now.

Christmas Orders

My first official year taking Christmas orders was extremely busy but I really enjoyed it- the hardest thing of all was not showing anyone what I was up to during the weeks before. Highlights include a new design for a men's crew neck in mostly natural colours, a special request for gloves, now named "Tina's Mitts" (more about these coming later), this new design double striped men's jumper which I have plans to do more with and a classes sweet pea hat. Thank you to all Christmas customers, I hope you are enjoying your garments!

New Patterns Available

I have updated my Ravelry store by adding a cowl version of Da Hömin and a cable knit slouchy beanie. Both of these were the result of the hand knitting I was doing to relax between Christmas and New Year. Both items were something I had wanted to make for myself but hadn't managed it through the year. The beanie hat was something different for me as it was my first full garment using cables. I had followed patterns using cables to make squared before but to have a finished item is lovely. I am not normally a "hat person" but the texture of these cables and the loose fit has got me pulling this on whenever the wind dies down!

Upcoming Classes

First of all, thank you to everyone who helped out by completing the survey I was running this time last month. It was a huge help to find out more about what you looked for in a class. I now have three types of class to book, all with spaces available for more people to join in!

Fair Isle Colourwork

Join me for a 3 hour session in January on the techniques I use when deciding how to put together colours for my knitting. We will be trying out some of these tricks as well as looking at the journey I took to come up with some of my own colourways.

Held at Shetland Designer, Cunningsburgh, Shetland

Fair Isle Knitting

A 3 hour session in January on Fair Isle knitting. This is perfect for anyone happy to knit plain and purl but would like to practice knitting with two colours within the row and following a Fair Isle chart.

Held at Shetland Designer, Cunningsburgh, Shetland

February *Knit-Your-Mitts*

An online class which takes place on a Facebook group for the month of February. Members will be first to get their hands on the new glove pattern "Tinas Mitts" and I will take everyone though every step. During February knitters within this group will be my priority, I will be doing live sessions on the group where members can ask questions and have techniques demonstrated in real time as well as arrange to have one-on-one chats with me for further support. I will also be hosting other discussions including colourwork and alternative techniques.
