May Update: Celebrating 2 Years

This month I am celebrating running Terri Laura full time for 2 full years !

Young Enterprise Shetland Finals 2019

On the 23rd of April Bank of Scotland (my former workplace!!) branch manager John Hamilton and I had the pleasure of judging the Young Enterprise Shetland final! It was such an honor to speak to both teams about their achievements and experiences before announcing Replenish as Shetlands winner.

Congratulations to Replenish and Bee Better on all of your hard work and impressive presentations at the Lerwick Town Hall that evening, I am still so excited to see how things go in the future and I am proud to have been a part of this stage of your journey.

Young enterprise is a great opportunity for 6th year school students to set up and run their own business before presenting their work at various finals. These guys will be heading to the Edinburgh finals next, with the chance of moving onto London then Brussels!

Make sure to check out the teams' Facebook pages to see what they have been up to.

I have spent a week this month in Denmark working with the team at Garncafe Madsine, Aalborg and attending Uldfestival Saltum, the largest wool festival in Scandinavia!

I have met so many people, eaten such lovely food and seen so many wonderful craft places.

Workshops were held in Fokus house alongside Garncafe Madsine, it was great to discuss how many Shetland people learned to knit and to practice holding two strands of yearn in the afternoon before going deeper into the colourwork and Fair Isle Design in the evening.

The Uldfestival is a great place to see every kind of wool and yarn with vendors from Iceland, Germany, Estonia, as well as the Scandinavian countries. I had the pleasure of speaking at the opening of the event alongside Bodil Munch, then I did a short talk on both Saturday and Sunday about knitting in Shetland including the traditions and what I am doing now inside my business.

Otherwise I was among the vendors speaking about the Fair Isle I had brought with me and selling kits, cowls and jumpers. It was so nice to have such an interest in Fair Isle and my designs, it was a very successful weekend for me!

I have added a gallery of pictures below, enjoy!

"Wark Kist" Project in Fair Isle

Have you seen this project in Fair Isle? The residents are working hard to fund the building of self catering accommodation in Fair Isle to help students, friends and family be able to visit and learn about Fair Isle.

Click the photo above to go to their Facebook page, give it a like to help spread the word and support them!
