Shetland Wool Week 2019

It's almost here! I can hardly believe it and I have said that every year. We speak about Wool Week all year so when it comes around it's SO exciting. To find out more about Wool Week CLICK HERE.

Since you're here, I can assume you want to know what I will be up to through the week, or at least what I am planning. First of all you need to know that I have a couple of guests coming for Wool Week this year, my lovely friends and organisers of the Swiss Yarn Festival as well as wonderful teachers: Meret of Butzeria and Asita of Sidispinnt. It's there first time to Shetland and I want to make sure they get the most out of it, so we have A LOT of plans.

So here we go:

Saturday 28 We'll be taking a look around Lerwick, including the hub at the museum, Islesburgh where we will be teaching through the week, and Commercial Street.

In the evening I'm holding an event for followers and friends and you're invited! Meet us at the Havly, we'll be there from 7-10 and the cafe will have tea and coffee on offer. Come and say hello!

Sunday 29 I am teaching my first class today! yay!

Monday 30th After taking an easy morning, I will be heading into Lerwick in the afternoon to meet up with some lovely visitors.

Tuesday 1st We'll be doing some exploring in the morning on Tuesday, and teaching another class in the afternoon.

Wednesday 2nd Road Trip! I can't wait to visit the haps in Ollaberry and the Craft Fair in Ulsta, Yell. We'll be doing all things North Mainland.

Thursday 3rd Teaching a class this morning in Islesburgh, then I'm hoping its a nice day for our trip to the South Mainland including lunch at Bigton (as long as I get all the yarn tidied up in time!)

Friday 4th I'm hoping to be around the hub in the morning for coffee and catch ups, before teaching my class in the afternoon.

Saturday 5th My favourite day! It's Makers Market day! Come and find me at there at my stand from 11-4. ALSO in the evening we will be going to the Flock Book Prize Giving Dance in the Tingwall Hall. It's going to be great!

Sunday the 6th will be all about goodbyes and wrapping things up. I hope this day doesn't come too soon...!

Travelling to India, October 2019

I am so excited to finally share my news, now that all the plans have been confirmed!

In October I am making a trip to India, to visit the company Knit One Change One for the first time!

This company is based in Tamil Nadu, India, educating and employing women to handknit for fashion brands.

I have been asked to work alongside these skilled women, sharing my tips on knitting Fair Isle!

I am so excited about this, it will be full of new experiences for me and I can’t wait to meet the ladies who have also been growing a knitting business!

I am planning to write about my trip while I am away, so the October post will be a little different. A full run down of Wool Week will go out on the usual date of the 21st of October, and I will be writing a second post in the style of a diary entry, adding to it for the duration of my travel. Check www.terrilaura.co.uk/blog for my updates on my trip.
